Virginia Vail

**Virginia (Ginny) E. Vail** 
*November 25, 1941 – October 3, 2025* 

Virginia “Ginny” E. Vail passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on October 3, 2025, in Stockton, California—the city where she was born and, fittingly, where she chose to spend her final year. 

Ginny married the love of her life, Gary Vail, in 1973, and together they built a lifetime of laughter, adventure, and shared dreams. With their marriage, Ginny gained eight stepchildren, four boys and four girls, whose ages ranged from 6 to 17 at the time. Over the decades, their growing family brought Ginny immense joy. She and Gary filled their homes in Moraga, Discovery Bay, San Francisco, and Oakland with warmth, good humor, and countless gatherings filled with music, food, and stories. 

When Gary passed in 2016, Ginny moved to Alameda, where she delighted in a panoramic view of the ocean and the San Francisco Bay. She often said that each sunrise reminded her of new beginnings. 

A dedicated professional, Ginny began her 32-year career with Pacific Bell (later AT&T) at age 20. She started in Personnel and Office Administration, then moved to Course Development and Training, where she was recognized for her leadership in Quality Improvement. Later she became a Technical Writer, then Ssupervisor of Maintenance, and finally became a Manager in Network Management. Ginny retired in 1992, but true to her belief in lifelong learning, she soon returned to school, earning an Associate of Arts degree from San Joaquin Delta College and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley. 

Ginny and Gary’s shared love of travel took them to six continents, often joined by family. Their enthusiasm for exploring the world lives on through their eight children, twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom inherited Ginny’s curiosity and joy for discovery. 

Those who knew Ginny remember her as kind, engaging, and endlessly interesting. She had a deep respect for others, a generous heart, and a steadfast commitment to keeping her far-flung family connected. She wanted to be remembered as interesting and fun, and she will be, by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. 

Per Ginny’s wishes, there will be no formal service. The family will gather for a celebration of her life when everyone can come together again. 

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness, curiosity, and continued learning, just as Ginny lived her life.
