Nathan Smoot Obituary

Nathan Milton Smoot

January 6, 1934 – June 30, 2020

Nathan Milton Smoot died peacefully on June 30, 2020 at the age of 86 with his loving wife Siri, and daughter Anong, by his side.

Nathan was born on January 6, 1934 in Williamsburg, Kentucky to Charles Stuart and Florence Magdaline (Dibrell) Smoot.  He was one of eight children.  He is a graduate of Lincoln Institute High School and attended Kentucky State University before enlisting in the United States Air Force.  He had the following children: Roderick Smoot, Tony Brown, Kim Goines, and Cheryl Lynn Smoot.

He served proudly in both the Korean War and Republic of Vietnam War.  Nathan met and married Siri while stationed at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base in 1970. They had one daughter and three sons together – Anong Baker, Pramet Smoot, Charlie Smoot, and Jiaranai Smoot.

Nathan had a long military career working as an Air Force Sargent and airplane mechanic. He retired from the military in 1973 after 23 years of honorable service.  He was a recipient of numerous awards and decorations for demonstrating heroism and serving in combat.  Nathan was honored to serve in the military and enjoyed sharing war stories.

In 1976 Nathan moved his family to Stockton, California where he was the successful owner and operator of multiple laundromats and dry cleaning facilities. He named his primary business “Siri’s Vogue Cleaners” after his beloved wife Siri.  He enjoyed going to work everyday and was keen on charming customers and remembering names.

With over 50 years of marriage, Nathan and Siri welcomed their greatest joys in life, grandchildren – Crystal, Nicole, Amanda, Adrian, Tyler, Nathan, Soleil, and Jiaranai Dean into their home and instilled the importance of family, education, and hard work.  They also excitedly welcomed great grandchildren – Shelly, Elijah, Quintenn, Alyssa, Zy’Ahna, Dionna, and Darion.

Nathan was the rock of his family showering everyone with unconditional love and support.  He encouraged his children and grandchildren to achieve their goals.  His grandchildren and great grandchildren simply remember him as “Papa,” a supportive, funny, and thoughtful person.

Nathan was an avid cook who appreciated homemade meals.  He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, watching the news, discussing politics, and spending quality time with his family.  He had a great sense of humor and the ability to make others laugh through witty banter.

Nathan always said, “Never say goodbye, say see you later.”

A heartfelt thank you to all who have expressed love, concern, and kindness during our time of bereavement.
