Luis Soluaga
April 1, 1970 – October 2, 2025

Luis Soluaga passed away on October 2, 2025 at the age of 55. Born in Lima, Peru on
April 1, 1970, Luis moved to the United States when he was just nine months old. He
was raised in Northern California, where he built a life rooted in love, family, and a deep
appreciation for the outdoors.

Luis was preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Enidelvia Soluaga. He is survived
by his daughter, Rio Soluaga, who was the light of his life and his greatest pride. He is
also survived by his sisters, Luz Kirsch (Joshua) and Doris Murtha (Douglas), and by his
nephews and niece: Nicolás, Lukas, Charlie, and Elise, all of whom he loved dearly.

He attended St. Raphael's Parochial School in San Rafael for his formative school
years, and subsequently graduated from Rancho Cotati High School in Rohnert Park.
He went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree from San Francisco State University, a
major source of pride. He applied his writing skills through poetry, limericks, and many
texts which mostly began with, “Hey, it’s your brother.”

Professionally, Luis spent over two decades serving the State of California as a
workers’ compensation claims adjuster. He found fulfillment in his work, sincerely
advocating for those in need. Just a few months prior to his passing, he retired after 22
years of dedicated work.

Luis had a deep love for the outdoors. He found joy in skiing the slopes of Lake Tahoe,
teeing off on the golf course, hiking and camping with his dogs, and especially tending
to his meticulously cared-for garden. Known for his incredible handiness, Luis could fix
just about anything, and he approached every task with patience and skill. He could
walk you through the removal of a car part with patience and clarity over the phone.

An enthusiast of the 1980s, Luis was passionate about the music and movies of that
era, often sharing his love for them with friends and family. Have you heard of “B”
movies such as Anchorman or Talladega Nights? He was an expert and could recite
jokes verbatim! His humor and playful spirit were infectious, bringing joy to gatherings
and creating memories that will be cherished forever. Luis was a friendly and
exceptionally kind person. Above all, he was a devoted father to his daughter, Rio, and
maintained a strong and respectful friendship with her mother, Ingrid. Co-parenting was
incredibly important to him. He was a proud, loving uncle & brother whose presence
will be profoundly missed.

Luis was cremated, and his life will be honored in a private memorial mass at St. John
the Baptist Church in El Cerrito on December 20, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the home of his sister, Luz Kirsch, where family and friends will gather to
celebrate his life, his love, and the many joyful memories he leaves behind.

Luis’s legacy is one of warmth, laughter, devotion, and profound love for his family. He
will be remembered always and missed forever.
