Lona Norwood Gross was born on May 11, 1944 in Stockton, California to Lemor and Minnie Norwood, and passed away on March 6, 2021. Lona, known to her family as “Nana”, was free-spirited and full of life. She enjoyed her life and was always happy to let her light shine.
Lona graduated from Edison High School in Stockton, California in 1962 and later graduated from San Joaquin Delta College with an Associates of Arts degree and University of the Pacific, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. She worked for Fibreboard, Sharpe Army Depot, Stockton Unified School District and retired from Child Abuse Prevention Council of San Joaquin County in 1992. In her younger years, she was a seamstress, making her own dresses. She enjoyed working with children and spending time around family and friends; more importantly, instilling education into the minds of the youth.
Lona leaves to cherish her memory, two sisters: Ruby Lee Glasgow of Lancaster, CA; and Phyllis Norwood of Stockton, CA; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins. Lona was preceded in death by her former husband, John H. Gross; parents, Lemor and Minnie Norwood; two brothers, Gary and Lemor “Margo” Norwood; and a sister, Mildred Lane.
