Obituary

Donna Joyce (Evenstad) Soper, 88, Stockton, CA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 9, 2020 at 12:43 a.m. Her family was at her side.

Donna was born on December 31, 1931 at home in Fargo, North Dakota. She was the youngest of four children and the only daughter. Her parents were Owen Evenstad and Myrtle Johnson of Fargo. She grew up on the north side of Fargo and graduated in 1949 from Fargo Central High School. After graduation she worked as a dental assistant for a short time before she was married.

On Feb. 3, 1954 she married Lou Soper from Detroit, Michigan. She had 4 children in four and a half years. They lived on 16 1/2 Street South in Fargo for 25 years. Donna enjoyed being a homemaker, she loved to bake and sew and she loved her pets! Among her many pets were purebred toy poodles and kitties. Her cat Smokey was by her side for the last 9 years.

In 1972 Donna started working at the new Hallmark Store in West Acres Shopping Center in Fargo. She was assistant manager and she loved working with the public. Within a few minutes of conversation with Donna she would know how many kids you had, where you were from, and what kind of work you did. She enjoyed getting to know all people.

In 1985 Donna transferred with Hallmark to Newark, California to be near some of her children and her 2 grandsons. She managed the party store Celebrate in the Newpark Mall for several years. After retiring from Hallmark Donna worked at a bookstore in San Leandro, CA. Because she would not drive on the freeways she found the long way to drive to work 3 cities away. Donna retired in 1999. In her final years of dementia her son Greg took excellent care of her until her last breath.

Donna is survived by her daughter Dawn (Soper) Halverson, Dublin, CA; her son Greg Soper, Stockton, CA; her son Brian Soper, Minneapolis, MN; two grandsons Aric Halverson and Joshua Halverson, Dublin, CA; her brother Ronald (Diane) Evenstad, Treasure Island, FL and several nieces and nephews.  She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brothers Wallace Evenstad and Kenneth Evenstad and her son, Jeff Soper.

The family will hold a celebration of life gathering after the stay in place quarantine is over. Donna's ashes will be interred at Riverside Cemetery in Fargo at a later date.
