Raymond David Garcia
Ray, a kind and generous person, loved to surprise family and friends by sharing his talents of roses, cooking, decorating and performing Random and Simple Acts of Kindness...
Ray, also known as little Ray, was the fourth child born to Ramon and Lucille (Richardson) Garcia. Although he was one of the middle children of a large family with seven siblings, he found his own way to stand out. He was the first in the family to graduate from College, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and the fruits of his labor included his award winning miniature roses. For many years he loved being part of the crew that made and decorated the Cal Poly floats of the Rose Bowl Parade. Ray and his roses received recognition at the White House. His roses and flowers adorned many church and family events and his roses will remain one of his living legacies. His culminating rose project is a living rosary in his backyard.
Ray also had a special gift of cooking. He loved treating family and friends to wonderful culinary delights and making everyone feel special by hosting many teas, brunches and parties. Some even received surprise meals at their work or home. He enjoyed making tamales in the fall and winter, assisted with Martha’s Meals at St. Joseph parish, and after his mother died, he and his sisters Acenita and Theresa, continued to make bread for the annual Stations of the Cross at B hill. His ribs, lasagna, cheesecakes and fudge will be missed by many of his nieces and nephews.
Ray also had a flair for decorating, especially during Christmas. He shared a love of Christmas decorating with his mother; both homes looked like winter wonderlands. Most notable were his mangers. He and his mother also shared the love of the same Christmas Carol, O Holy Night, and honoring the role of the Virgin Mary.
Ray was active in the St Joseph Parish and Knights of Columbus in Barstow and at Fort Irwin.
Ray was preceded in death by his Mother, Father, Grandparents, Sister-in-law, Niece, and several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many Friends he helped to cross over to eternal life. He is remembered on earth by a large family and a wonderful group of friends from all walks of life, including his brothers and sisters: Rosie (Garcia) and Ward Burroughs, Danny and Nancy (Anderson) Garcia, Connie Garcia, Richard and Beverly (Walton) Garcia, Acenita (Garcia) and Mike Royce, Theresa (Garcia) Pino, and Michaele (Garcia) and David McCulley.
In lieu of flowers, please bring a single flower for a bouquet at the Mass. Monetary or canned good donations may be made to Martha’s Meals, St Joseph Parish.
Thank You to the Knights of Columbus for their support and help.
Special Thank You to the Alexander Cohen Hospice House and their wonderful staff for providing a caring, loving and compassionate place for Ray to spend his final days.
