Basil Bernard Murphy

Basil Murphy passed away July 19, 2018 at San Joaquin General Hospital near Stockton, California due to pneumonia, infection and Alzheimer disease. His friends and family all called him Murph or Murphy. He was 81 years old and was born on May 29, 1937 and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He enlisted in the US Air Force where he served and then later in the US Army where he retired from service in Fort Ord, California. During his tours of duty he served in Korea, Germany, and the war in Vietnam.

After leaving the military he resided in California the rest of his life. He worked as an electrician with the Union Pacific Railroad rewiring motors until he injured his back, drove trucks for a while, and then was involved in construction until he retired. Murphy’s passion in life was fishing or getting in the car and traveling to some casino. He was also faithful in going to his local Catholic Church.

He is survived by his 2nd wife Dang Murphy, and the numerous family from Dang’s first marriage, including their granddaughter Tina Bui, Tuan Huynh and his wife Hang who have been caring for both of them until Murphy finally had to be cared at a memory care facility in Stockton.

Arrangements are being made to have a military burial for Murphy at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California. He will be missed by all who knew him.
