Barbara Louise (Slate) Stanley
Barbara Stanley passed away in Stockton, California on September 6, 2018, at the age of 78 years.
A native of Bakersfield, CA, Barbara was the daughter of James D. and Louise W. Slate. She worked for over forty years as a surgical nurse, the past several at Lodi Community Hospital before retiring in the early 1990s.
Barbara gave generously of her time, serving the community in and around Valley Springs for many years. She was a member of the Area Business Association (ABA) booster club where she faciliated many annual events including the Christmas Parade, Crafts Fair, Snyder’s Valley Spring Pow Wow, and Fireworks Over New Hogan. She also served as the President of the Fire Fighter’s Auxillary. In a testament to her longtime dedication, the ABA honored her as Citzen of the Year in 2006. In her free time Barbara was also a member of the Quilts of Honor quilting club and contributed to numerous quilts made and lovingly given to combat veterans. And finally she attended Community Methodist Church in Valley Springs for several years, before moving to Stockton to be with family.
Barbara will be forever remembered by her son David Achterhof and daughter Teri Matney, and by her brother and sister Bob Slate and Peggy Schulz. She was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia Patrick. Barbara will also be forever remembered by her eight grandchildren, seven great-children, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and dear friends.
A Celebration of Barbara ’s life will be held at 1pm, on Saturday, September 8, at the First Presbyterian Church, 31 East Vine Street, Stockton, CA, with Pastor David Cicileo officiating. A light lunch is to follow.
